The project is designed to record the history of Slaithwaite, its people, folklore and legend, and in particular to document the history of Moonraking in the village. The plan is to interview as many people as possible during 2005, and record the conversations ready for archiving. In addition, the legends and folklore will be researched by all possible means. Local schools will be asked to help with this work, as part of their history project, and an archivist will be employed to oversee the assembly of the information. This can be collected by anyone who wishes to take part. It should be first of all written down either on paper or stored electronically or recorded on tape. When a story has been edited, it can be sent to us either by post, email, or be typed straight into this web site (see the Send it to us page for more information.) When the archive is properly assembled, we will be producing a book, a CD, a photographic exhibition accompanied by a drama production, and finally the whole archive will be available on this web site for the world to see. None of this would be possible if it were not for the finance provided by the Heritage Lottery fund, (HLF)who have kindly provided us with a grant that covers 92% of the cost.
